The Executive Council discussion of the question

on the 13th of February, 1930, resulted in the following

decision:-

"That the Government should build Piers at Jubilee

*Street and Jordan Road provided that the

"permission of the Secretary of State for a loan

"could be obtained; that the Secretary of State

should be approached for permisssion to issue a

*loan forthwith; that the decision concerning the

building of ferry boats and the running of the

"ferries should be reserved for the arrival of the

"new Governor."

All Unofficial Members

The Council was not unanimous in its decision, two

Official Members holding that the need for a Vehicles Ferry

at all had not been established.

however, and the remainder of the Officials were in favour of

the alteration and the minute was duly confirmed at the

next meeting of the Council on the 20th of February, 1930.

13. To facilitate the explanation of the present and proposed Ferry systems operating from the Western district of Victoria, I enclose a small scale map showing the two

systems marked in black and in red respectively. The Star

Ferry Service is omitted from the Map, its route being the

shortest line between Kowloon Point and Hong Kong.

14. The present Yaumati Ferry employs two wharves on the Hong Kong side from one of which there is a service to

Yaumati and from the other there are two services to

Shamshuipo and to Hongkok. is proposed that a substantial pier including a concourse

area for the large number of passengers and vehicles to be

accommodated should be built by reclamation in front of the

new Government Offices and extending from Jubilee Street to

Queen
